Mobile Software Deployment Automation

Business Challenge

The client is one of the biggest tobacco companies, whose products are sold in more than 160 countries. The Russian affiliated company employs more than 3,000, many of whom use mobile devices and specialized applications daily. Each PDA requires the software to be installed and the system to be configured.

To make the process of PDA software installation and system configuration on each device quicker and easier, the client decided to automate these processes using one solution. The main software requirement was to help users quickly install and configure all applications without help of technical specialists..

The client required the following software to be installed and automatically configured:

  • Microsoft Remote Display Control
  • HP iPAQ Certificate Enroller (version 1.3.0.0)
  • Patch for USSD requests RILforUSSDRUS.CAB
  • GPRS settings
  • VPN settings
  • Wi-Fi settings
  • Energy saving settings
  • Program button settings
  • Suite of clients’ applications

Maintaining a PDA device manufacturer's warranty was also an important factor for the client.

Solution

MS Team specialists performed a thorough analysis of the client's requirements and suggested the development of solutions that would satisfy all needs and be distributed on flash cards to maintain device warranties.

The developed mobile solution accomplished the main goal: automation of mobile device software installation and system configuration. The time frame of the total procedure also decreased from 30 minutes to 2 minutes for each PDA.
